LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court on Monday issued notices to the vice chancellor and the registrar of the Punjab University by March 25 on a contempt of court petition filed by the Institute of Communication Studies (ICS) former director Prof Dr Ahsan Akhtar Naz.

The petitioner’s lawyer Aftab Bajwa told Justice Shujaat Ali Khan that the respondent vice chancellor had ignored a previous order by the court and not constituted a committee to decide a representation moved by his client.

Prof Naz has challenged his removal from the post of director and a subsequent inquiry by the university’s authorities into allegations of sexual harassment levelled by an employee. On a previous hearing, the court had directed the vice chancellor to decide the representation of the petitioner in accordance with law.

Bajwa had urged the court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against the respondents for not complying with the order.

In the main petition, Naz had submitted that the vice chancellor had withdrawn notification of his appointment as director over ICS on sexual harassment charges.

He had requested the court to order the formation of a judicial commission headed by a retired high court judge and two senior PU professors to probe into the alleged incident.
