Exam theft: Stolen matric exam papers recovered

Civil Line police on Monday arrested a sweeper working at ) Sargodha Road branch United Bank Limited (UBL and a friend of his for allegedly stealing matric examination papers from the bank, said Investigation Officer Tahir Yaseen.
The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) had deposited the examination papers at the bank.
They were to be distributed at the exam centre at Government Islamia College Sargodha Road, Yaseen said. Shamoon, the sweeper, and his friend Asim had decided to steal the exam papers as they were to appear in the exam in this year.
Yaseen said Government Islamia College Assistant Professor M Sarwar filed a complaint on Saturday alleging that eight bundles of matric papers had been stolen from a locker at the UBL branch on Friday night.
The police called in the bank manager and cashier for interrogation on Saturday. Yaseen said CCTV footage showed Shamoon carrying a basket out of the bank.
Police said they next arrested Shamoon and he confessed to stealing the papers in a plot involving his friend Asim.
Police next arrested Asim and recovered the papers from the Malkhanwala sewage channel in Batala Colony. The suspects would be produced before a court for remand on Tuesday, Yaseen said.
