ISLAMABAD:
The Higher Education Commission and vice chancellors from 22 public sector universities on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Promotion of Education in Pakistan (PEP), a US non- profit organization, for the establishment of a Student Advancement Endowment Fund (SAEF).
The signing ceremony was held at the HEC office in Islamabad.
HEC Chairman Javed R Laghari said the commission is committed to equitable access to higher education, especially for marginalised segments of society.
He hoped that the establishment of SAEFs at 22 public sector universities will help alleviate poverty by providing grooming and learning opportunities to youngsters from humble backgrounds.
PEP President Dr Khalid Iqbal said the purpose of SAEF is to make higher education accessible for needy students, enhance their experience, and make universities more competitive.
