Indian Minister resigns over allegations of murdering a cop: Report
Uttar Pradesh minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh was not present at the scene of the crime and maintains he is innocent.
Uttar Pradesh minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya resigned from his post after being accused of murdering a senior police officer in India, on Monday reported BBC News.
According to the police, Singh has been accused of “conspiracy and murder”.
The victim, senior police officer Ziaul Haque, served as a Deputy Superintendent and was shot dead in Pratapgarh where he had gone to investigate the murder of a village head in connection with a land dispute.
Reports said Haque's body was dragged through the village by his killers. The DSP’s widow had subsequently lodged a complaint with the police.
Singh was not present at the scene of the crime and maintains that he is innocent.
The minister has several criminal cases pending against him and has served jail time in the past.
