Preserving history: Heritage conference held in Makli
Conference announces annual conferences in all provinces.
HYDERABAD:
A conference of the national and international heritage managers held in Makli, Thatta, on Sunday announced to hold annual conferences in all the provinces.
These conferences will review heritage preservation programmes, hold discussions and extend cooperation and scientific capacity-building of the workforce.
Among those who attended the conference were Dr Kozue Kay Nagata and Prof. Michel Jensen of UNESCO, Yasmeen Lari of the Heritage Foundation of Pakistan and the director-general of the federal department of archaeology and museums, Dr Fazal Dad Kakar. The culture department organised the event at the Makli Guest House.
Dr Nagata announced to co-finance the preparation of the master plan for Moenjo Daro’s preservation. Prof. Jensen, while outlining the importance of electronic documentation of the heritage sites, offered to provide a three-month training course at Makli in this regard. Yasmeen Lari briefed the meeting about the documentation centre set up at Makli to electronically record all the archaeological assets in Makli necropolis and other parts of Thatta district.
