Family ties: Envious man hacks four kin to death
Riaz confesses to killing brother, wife, niece and sister-in-law.
LAHORE:
A man brutally murdered his wife, brother, sister-in-law and a niece in Green Town on Sunday.
Dentist Muhammad Fayyaz, 24, his 22-year old wife, Asma; their four-month old daughter and his sister-in-law, Farhat, 28; were allegedly hacked to death by his brother, Muhammad Riaz, while their parents slept in their bedroom.
The bodies were discovered by Fayyaz’s mother, Nasreen Bano, who called the police. They found Fayyaz, Asma and their daughter lying in a pool of blood in their bedroom on the ground floor. Riaz’s wife, Farhat, was found murdered in her own bedroom on the first floor. Police said Asma had been beheaded while Farhat’s arm had been chopped off. The brutality of the slaughter shocked the family and neighbours who said they were not aware of a motive.
Police took the bodies to a mortuary and initially registered a case against unidentified suspects. Riaz was arrested in the evening as prime suspect.
Fayyaz’s cousin, Ali Raza, told The Express Tribune that the family had moved into the house six weeks ago.
Tariq, Fayyaz’s uncle, told The Express Tribune Riaz had called him at 8:15am to tell him that unidentified suspects had murdered the family. Tariq said Riaz had left the house around 3am to receive his Pir at the airport and was there when the murder was discovered.
Police said there were no signs of a break-in and nothing in the house appeared to have been stolen. There had been an all-night milaad gathering at a nearby open plot and no one there had seen any suspicious person trying to enter the house.
On questioning by the police, Riaz confessed to the murders. The Nawabkot DSP told a press conference, Riaz and Farhat had not had children six years into their marriage, whereas Fayaz and Asma who were married a year and a half ago, had had a child. This, according to Riaz, had resulted in the family treating Fayaz better than him. He told the police he had murdered them in a fit of jealousy.
