The protesters blocked the Sheikhupura-Faisalabad Road and chanted slogans for the immediate arrest of those involved in the killing.
Noor Din, one of the demonstrators, said Sana, 18, had married Mushtaq, a resident of Data Park, Malikpur, a few months ago, but the marriage was not working.
He said Mushtaq and his family used to taunt Sana for bringing scant dowry and had urged her to bring cash or gifts from her parents.
“Sana and her in-laws traded hot words over the issue a number of times,” he said. In the end, he alleged Mushtaq strangled her and tried to make it look like a suicide.
A police team sent to meet the protesters assured them that the culprits would be taken to task in accordance with the law.
The demonstrators dispersed then peacefully.
The Mansoorabad SHO said the police had registered a murder case and arrested Mushtaq. He said the postmortem report was awaited.
Mushtaq denied the allegations, saying that he had been wrongly accused.
