Jati Umra: LHC moved against CGDL order to freeze construction

The notification violated fundamental rights of people living in the area, says Khan.

LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has been moved to suspend a notification by the government to halt construction on a 2,000 Acres zone in Jati Umra.

Advocate Noshab Khan petitioned that the city government had issued a notification on February 4 freezing development of housing schemes in the area to benefit the Sharif family. He said the government had announced that the land could only be used for agriculture.

The notification violated fundamental rights of people living in the area, Khan said.

He said the notification was not based on any provision of Lahore’s approved master plan. Khan requested the court to declare the notification void.
