German donations cross $200mn

German relief organizations have so far collected $209million for flood victims in Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD:
Donations by the German public for flood victims in Pakistan increased to around $209million, as per the statistics issued by the German Institute on Social Matters, Deutsche Zenhal institut fuer soziale Fragen, DZI in Berlin on Friday.

According to the statistics, 45 German relief organizations have the certification of the DZI Institute to collect donations, which have so far amounted to 161million Euro (around $209million), says a message from the Embassy of Pakistan in Berlin.

According to DZI, after a slow start the flow of donations gathered pace and now the donations are the highest by Germany after the donations made for the Tusnami in 2004-05, Elbe Floods in Germany in 2002 and Haiti's earthquake earlier this year.

However, the donations for Pakistan flood victims still continue to pour in. The six organizations which have collected more than 10million Euro are:


  • Entwicklung Hilft (27.8 million)

  • German Red Cross -DRK(18.9 million)

  • Aktion Deutschland Hilft (16.3 million)

  • DeutscheWelthungerhilfe (15.3 million)

  • Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe (12.2million)

  • Caritas Germany (11 million)
