Khichi was elected MPA from PP-239 constituency in a by-election on February 18.
LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court on Thursday issued a notice to MPA Muhammad Jahanzeb Khan Khichi on a petition seeking his disqualification.
Khichi was elected MPA from PP-239 constituency in a by-election on February 18.
His rival candidate, Imran Khan Khichi of the Peoples Party, has challenged his eligibility for the office.
The petitioner alleged that the respondent was a bank loan defaulter and did not meet the criteria prescribed under Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution to become a member of the assembly.
The petitioner requested the court to declare the respondent ineligible for the seat. Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial heard initial arguments on Thursday and issued a notice to the MPA for a reply in two weeks.
