Bay View offers students a sneak peek into their academic lifestyle
Visitors tour campus, meet faculty members and gather information about subjects offered.
KARACHI:
In an effort to help students make more informed choices in their A’ levels, the Bay View College held an open house over the weekend for students from all over Karachi.
Themed ‘Streets and Avenues’, the event was held at Bay View’s A’ level campus at Old Clifton and offered an introduction to the institute’s faculty, students, and facilities.
As the young visitors arrived, they were given tour of the campus in small groups by the host students. They were also given a briefing on the faculty, the labs, the multimedia facilities, and the sports ground.
A video running in the college’s lecture theatre, followed by a presentation on the academy’s A’ level programme, gave an overall view of Bay View’s philosophy and commitment to its three Es. “Education, empowerment, and experience - this is what Bay View offers through its academic programme, co-curricular activities, student council, faculty and community service,” said the vice-principal, Nadeem Islam.
Apart from the academic options, there were multiple food stalls set up for the students to enjoy from. Street signs pointed the visitors to the ‘food street’ with mock pavements and graffiti creating a street-like atmosphere. Impromptu dances prepared by college students took the visitors by surprise on their way to the food stalls.
“I loved everything about this event, especially the homely and encouraging atmosphere,” said a visiting O’ level student, Hassan Idrees.
The student organisers worked hard to put the event together, staying back till 7pm, said one of the organisers, Mahnoor Moin.
Her peer, Misha Mayet, explained that they had separate teams working on the dance, the decorations, the marketing, the street art, the road signs, ticketing, and the food arrangements.
“I think it was a great experience for the visitors to interact with the teachers as well as the students,” commented another organiser Ahmed Khanani. Some parents also chose to attend the open house with their kids and were able to gather information directly from the vice-principal.
