As annual matric examinations draws close, school principals are facing the pressure just as the students.

Their pressure increased when Executive District Officer (Education) Sajjad Aslam announced on Tuesday that school principals would be transferred for poor results. Those with particularly bad results would be suspended from service, the EDO added.

The matric exams are scheduled to begin on March 2.

The announcement came during the EDO’s address at the Government High School Number 1, where he was attending the sports and literary competitions as the chief guest.

“Just as the principals are anxious about their promotions, they should also be worried about their students’ results,” he said.

He said the government had made education a priority. He mentioned the distribution of laptops and solar lamps in several cities.

He said solar lamps would also be distributed among students in Pasrur and Daska.

He said that school teachers must ensure that darood sharif was recited in the morning assembly for at least 15 minutes.

While handing over prizes to the winners of sports competitions, the EDO mentioned that Aasiya Bibi, a ninth class student at Government High School, Mandaki Goraiya in Daski, had won the 1,500 metres race at the Punjab Youth Festival 2012. He said students who were good at sports should be taken to competitions on provincial and national level.

The ceremony was presided over by District Education Officer Raees Ahmad Mir. President of the Headmasters Association (Sialkot district) Shahjahan Bhandar, Pasrur President Kabir Ahmed Bhatti and Punjab Teachers Union district president Ali Akbar Bajwa were also present.
