Land dispute: Three killed, two injured in Bannu shootout

Three people were killed and two others injured in a shootout between two rival groups following a dispute over cutting trees in Bannu Township area on Saturday.



At around 10:00 am, the rival groups started firing at each other in Shamozai area, said police official Gul Nawaz. Nawaz said Saeed Rahman filed a case with the Bannu Township police saying he, his brother Imran and father Khanadan were chopping trees when two brothers Aminullah and Saminullah, along with Rabat Khan and Asmat Ali, opened fire at them. Imran and Khanadan died on the spot while the attackers managed to escape, he added.

However, Dildar Khan, who is a member of the other group, filed a case with the police accusing Khanadan, Imran, Saeed Rahman and Shamsur Rahman of opening fire on them, killing Zaman and injuring Asmat and Saminullah.

The bodies were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital for autopsy and separate cases were registered against the accused. Police said both groups are engaged in a land dispute and often have skirmishes with each other.
