No longer required: KMC administrator removed from post
Karachi commissioner Hashim Raza has been given additional charge of the administrator.
KARACHI:
The government issued orders on Thursday to remove Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed.
Several officials believed that the decision marks the widening gulf between the ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
Syed, who came to lead the affairs of the port city in September 2011, has been asked to report back to the Sindh government, according to an official notification. Karachi commissioner Hashim Raza has been given additional charge of the administrator.
“He appears to be the first casualty of the differences between the PPP and the MQM since the latter quit the government,” said an official. “Syed was considered close to the MQM, especially governor Dr Ishratul Ebad.”
Syed was a grade-20 district management group officer, who came to take charge as the district coordination officer in January 2011 and also served as Karachi commissioner for a brief period.
