ISLAMABAD: Rescue 15 police responded to 16,000 distress calls during the current year, police records claimed.

According to data compiled by the police, Rescue 15 police provided services to curb robberies, car and motorcycle thefts. The rescue team shifted hundreds of wounded persons to hospitals on its vehicles, performed burial of unclaimed bodies and settled petty disputes. Rescue 15 police officials also claimed to be the first to reach the plane crash site in Margalla hills and assisted rescue workers in digging out bodies and removing plane wreckage.

The strength of Rescue 15 police has been increased, while 35 motorcycles and seven new vehicles have been provided to enhance logistic support of the department.

SSP Tahir Alam Khan said the Bomb Disposal Squad of the Rescue 15 police has state-of-the-art equipment and Response Unit of the department has well-trained personnel.

He said that in a few days, the authority will begin collecting bio-data of cab drivers to help people trace belongings mistakenly left behind in the taxis. He said that taxis can be tracked by their registration numbers, which people can provide by calling Rescue 15 office.
