Sectarian violence: ASWJ workers to be released following talks

Authorities have agreed to release 12 workers of the Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat (ASWJ) after two-day long talks between the police, district administration and ASWJ representatives.
The group’s district amir, Maulana Muhammad Ismail Derwesh, said they have also been assured of an end to the operation against them.
Twelve workers of the groups and four Imamia Jirga members were arrested under section three of the Maintenance of Public Order following police raids across the city. They were later shifted to the Dera Ismail Khan central jail for a month.
The arrests were made following target killing incidents in which people from Shia families were shot.
“Our talks with the authorities have been successful and we have been assured that all ASWJ’s activists would be released till Thursday,” said Derwesh.
Meanwhile, leaders of the Imamia Jirga have refused to meet the administration.
