The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday issued notices to Secretary National Regulations and Services (NRS), Vice President and Administrator of the Pakistan Medical Dental Council (PMDC) and others in a contempt of court petition.
The petition was filed by Dr Ahmed Nadeem Akbar for non-compliance of the court order, asking the court to direct the authorities concerned to suspend the appointment of PMDC registrar.
On February 7, Justice Riaz Ahmed Khan, while hearing a petition filed by Dr Akbar, suspended the appointment order of Dr Amjad Mehmood as Registrar and Administrator PMDC.
However, the respondents failed to comply with the court order.
Advocate Abdul Rahim Bhatti, the counsel of the petitioner, in his contempt petition, sought criminal proceeding against the officials for non-compliance of the court order. He informed the court that despite the court’s order, Dr Amjad Mehmood was still performing his duties.
The court, while entertaining the petition, issued notices to officials including Secretary (NRS), Imtiaz Inayat Elahi, Vice President PMDC Dr Asim Hussain and Administrator PMDC Dr Amjad Mehmood and asked them to explain in the next hearing on March 7 as to why the court’s order was not complied.
