PTI elections: ‘Jostling in party elections is friendly’

Ideology Group introduces 26 candidates.

Political manoeuvring is at its peak in Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s intra-party elections. It is a friendly match and all those elected to the posts will be welcomed, said Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed at a press conference on Wednesday. Defection and affection, Rasheed added, was the beauty of politics. 


Rasheed also announced a panel of the Ideology Group’s 26 candidates for PTI offices.


The PTI district level elections are scheduled for February 26 across the province. The the newly elected union council members will vote in this election.

The 13 elected members at each union council level will elect 30 office bearers at the district level and 18 at the town and tehsil level. The voting will be through secret ballot. Three groups are fielding candidates for district as well as town level slots.

The Unity Group headed by Ahsan Rasheed is fielding Abdul Aleem Khan as president and Abdul Rasheed Bhatti as general secretary. The Ideology Group has nominated Mehmoodur Rasheed as president and Hafiz Farhat Abbas as general secretary. The Tsunami Change Group has nominated Farooq Amjad Mir as president. Hammad Azhar is running independently as general secretary.

Rasheed urged the union council office bearers to elect party office holders on the basis of merit.
