KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday directed the finance departments of the provincial government and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to release salaries to unpaid employees within 10 days.

The city government’s workers union had gone to court and complained that thousands of KMC employees had not been paid for over two months. The government had also not issued pensions to retired KMC employees. “Hundreds of Christian employees had marked Christmas on the streets to protest against the administration,” the petitioners had stated.

On Wednesday, SHC Chief Justice Mushir Alam, who was heading the bench, directed the Sindh finance secretary and KMC’s finance officer to resolve the matter within 10 days.
