Hunt for OGRA ex-chief Tauqir Sadiq nears end
Tauqir Sadiq will be brought back to Islamabad upon receiving permission from Ajman court.
DUBAI:
The manhunt for Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA)’s ex-chief Tauqir Sadiq came one step closer to a long awaited conclusion.
Sadiq's kafeel cancelled his residential UAE visa, and the decision to deport him back to Pakistan has also been signed off by a judge, Express News reported.
In an effort to ensure his return to Pakistan, a return ticket has also been provided to the court in Ajman.
Sources say Sadiq will be brought back to Islamabad upon receiving permission from the court.
Background
Sadiq is suspected of embezzling a total of Rs83 billion.
The deputy attorney general had earlier told the apex court that the charge-sheet prepared against Sadiq carried 10 allegations including misconduct and a fake LLM degree.
An inquiry committee had noted that the appointment of Sadiq as Ogra chairman was questionable.
He fled to the UAE in 2011, after the Supreme Court declared his appointment as Ogra chairman illegal.
The Supreme Court ordered Sadiq’s arrest over three months ago.
