Gsp+ scheme: Chamber calls for immediate application

Pakistan should immediately apply to the European Union (EU) to qualify for the grant of the Generalized System of Preference Plus (GSP+) status under the new regulations, Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Mian Zahid Aslam said on Monday.


The EU has already granted the Autonomous Trade Preference (ATP) package to Pakistani exporters from November 1, 2012, he added. He maintained that the new GSP regulations offer an excellent opportunity for improving Pakistan’s relations with the EU in terms of trade, politics and economics.

From what I read it takes 6 months to approve the application so we must apply right away but will it possible since elections are upon us and everyone is busy pandering to people? By the time new government comes into power it will be too late.
