Complaint cell: Reports sought on police excesses

Three of the cases involved death in police custody.

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court complaint cell has asked additional district and session judges for reports on seven incidents of alleged police torture and killing reported in the press. Three of these cases involved death in police custody. Toba Tek Singh police are accused of torturing Mahboob Alam to death and dumping his body near a graveyard. Khanqah Dogran police are accused of killing Zafar Ali and Raiwind City police for killing Nadeem Ahmad. The judges have been asked to submit the reports in a week. Sanda police are accused of favouring a murder suspect. The Sahiwal district and session judge has been asked to submit a report on a woman’s murder by her husband allegedly. The cell has also taken notice of the murder of a domestic servant, Saeed Ahmad, by his employers, Azhar and Shafique, in Bahawalpur.
