Two men were killed on Sunday allegedly by their in-laws over free-will marriages not sanctioned by their wives’ families.
One of them was shot dead. The body of the other man was found hanging from a tree.
Bolani police said Ashfaq Ahmed, a resident of Gahyal, was visiting his sister-in-law’s wedding, when he was shot dead in his sleep. The assailants fled the scene. A complaint was registered by Mushtaq Hussain, father of the deceased. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.
Hussain told police that his son had married a few months ago. He said initially there was some hostility between him and his in-laws, but they later settled the matter. On Sunday, he said, Ahmed’s brothers-on-law and their cousins shot him dead.
Elsewhere, the body of a man was found hanging from a tree in Barnali village. Some passers-by informed the police and sent the body for an autopsy. Police said the deceased, identified as Khaild, had recently married a woman without the consent of her family.
They said there were bruises on the neck and arms suggesting that he had been killed elsewhere before the body was hung in the park to make it look like a suicide. A case has been registered and investigations have begun, they said.
