PESHAWAR:

Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao on Sunday said the government has failed to restore peace over the last five years and resolve the problems faced by Pukhtuns.

Addressing a large public gathering in Buner district to mark the 38th death anniversary of Shaheed Hayat Mohammad Khan Sherpao, he blamed the federal and the provincial governments for not being able to adopt a comprehensive strategy to address issues confronting Pakhtuns.

Sherpao added no concrete steps had been taken to revive the damaged infrastructure of Malakand division, where the law and order situation was also unsatisfactory. The QWP leader maintained the country’s economy was on the verge of collapse due to ill-conceived policies of the incumbent rulers.

Aftab Sherpao said the QWP would resist any move to either postpone or delay the upcoming general elections, urging the government to take steps for creating an environment conducive to holding the polls in a free, fair and transparent manner.

He claimed his party was the real representative of the Pakhtuns and no effort would be spared to serve them. QWP has the ability to steer the country out of the prevailing crises and put it on the path to progress and development, he added.
