Cricket: Kaneria’s second hearing set for April 22

A second hearing of Pakistani leg-spinner Danish Kaneria’s appeal against his lifetime ban for involvement in spot-fixing has been scheduled for April 22 by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), espncricinfo.com reported Saturday.
A lifetime ban was imposed on the leg-spinner in June, last year, for his alleged role in the spot-fixing plot.
The 31-year-old was found guilty of 'cajoling and pressurising' former Essex team-mate Mervyn Westfield into accepting cash and giving runs to the opponent team during a Pro 40 match in 2009. However, the sportsman denies the charges and demands the appeal to be heard in front of an independent panel.
Kaneria, who has been in London since the first hearing in December, is appealing against the ban and the £100,000 penalty that were imposed on him.
