Education City dream set to become reality

The draft of the Education City Act has been prepared and it will be presented in the Sindh Assembly for approval.

KARACHI:
The draft of the Education City Act has been prepared and it will be presented in the Sindh Assembly for approval after consultation with all stakeholders, said investment adviser Zubair Motiwala on Thursday.

“The master plan for Education City, which would be spread over 9,000 acres, would be completed in six months,” the adviser said at a meeting held with stakeholders at the office of the Sindh Board of Investment.

“The Sindh government has allocated Rs1 billion for Education City in the current budget and we will start building its infrastructure as soon as the master plan is ready.”

The government plans to build Education City on the land that connects the National Highway and Super Highway. The decision to implement the project was taken by the Sindh cabinet on October 16, 2001.

However, progress has been hindered by bureaucratic hurdles, delaying it for years.

Motiwala said that a security check post and a mobile patrolling system would be set up at the project’s site.

Among others, Dow University Vice-Chancellor Professor Masood Hameed Khan and Dr Salman Sheikh of the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute attended the meeting.
