Women cricket: Edward guides England to 3rd spot

Edwards put her team on platform for victory as she scored 106 off 121 deliveries.

England thrived on captain Charlotte Edwards unbeaten century to defeat New Zealand by four wickets in order to claim third place in the ICC Women’s World Cup, according to Rediff Cricket. 



Set to chase a target of 221, Edwards put her team on platform for victory as she scored 106 off 121 deliveries to take England to 222 in 47 overs.

Apart from Edwards, Lydia Greensway (31), Sarah Taylor (28) and Arran Brindle (27) also helped England to a win.Off-spinner Lucy Doolan was the most successful bowler for New Zealand as she scalped three wickets for 50 runs.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka women (244 for seven) won the fifth place play off against South Africa women (156 all out).
