Thwarted: Police defuse explosives

PESHAWAR:
Police defused a two-kilogramme remote-controlled explosive planted near a house in Mashogagar on Tuesday. The homemade device had been planted by unidentified persons and had been concealed in a flask placed near the house of Sardar Khan, a former havaldar in the Frontier Corps. The device was spotted before it could be detonated, and was successfully defused by the bomb disposal squad. Police said Sardar Khan’s house was targeted by militants because he is considered to be an anti Lashkar-e-Islam figure. In a separate incident, police in DI Khan arrested Muhammad Aslam, a resident of Mujahid Nagir and recovered seven hand grenades placed in a plastic bag. According to officials the explosives would have been used in terrorist plots in the city.
