KARACHI: Residents of Abdullah Shah Goth, Malir, damaged the walls of Muslim League House and set government vehicles on fire on Wednesday in, what they termed, was a protest against illegal occupation and members of the party labeled as demands for extortion.

The minister for relief and a leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), Haleem Adil Sheikh told The Express Tribune that members of a land mafia attacked his party’s office when he refused to fulfill their demand to pay Rs500,000. The office was shifted to Muhammad Ali Society about a year ago and the old workplace was being renewed, he added. Members of the party arrived at the site and got three of the protesters arrested. The residents, however, claimed that PML-Q has occupied additional land during the reconstruction of the party’s house. One of the protesters, Ejaz, told The Express Tribune that many of the residents had been confined to their homes as their street was blocked due to the extra land occupied by the party.

Malir Cantt police explained that the case was being investigated. The protesters have been arrested as they took the law into their hands, explained Additional SHO Aleem Solangi. The police is trying to resolve the matter by negotiations, he added.

"as you sow, so shall you reap". PML-Q grabbed most of these offices with the help General Musharraf's martial law power. Now it's time to repay!
