Gas leakage: DHQ blood bank damaged in explosion

An explosion on Tuesday damaged the wall of the district headquarters hospital’s (DHQ) blood bank and destroyed some equipment.


Wajid Ali, an employee at the DHQ, said the explosion occurred at 8:45am and thick smoke engulfed the room. He added that the force of the blast knocked him to the ground.


Ali said glass tubes were smashed in the blood bank.

SHO Nowshera Kalan police Mumtaz Khan told The Express Tribune that the explosion was not caused by a bomb. He explained that initial investigations have revealed the cause to be a gas leakage.

He said the gas pipeline near the wall had been leaking and when the staff turned on the stove, the explosion occurred, damaging the wall.
