Robbery: Rs1.6m looted in a bank heist

Armed robbers looted a bank branch in broad daylight in Khalabat Township here on Tuesday afternoon. They shot injured a bank employee while fleeing, police told.


Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Tariq Khan informed the local reporters that five armed men on four motorcycles entered the premises of a private bank branch at Chowk Syedan of the township at around 3.15pm.


Two of the masked men entered the bank and overpowered the security guard, Noorur Rehman before holding the bank staff at gunpoint.



They collected Rs1.6 million from the safe and counter and drove away. When they were fleeing the bank guard opened fire at them but none of them was injured. However they returned fire injuring the bank’s naib qasid. He was taken to a hospital, however his condition was stated to be out of danger, hospital sources said.

DSP Khan said the police have sealed all exit and entry points of two Afghan refugee camps and launched a search operation for the robbers who, he believes, would be apprehended soon. “Some suspects with applied for motorcycles have been picked up for interrogation”.
