LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court on Monday directed the petitioners and the Attorney General to argue on the constitutional status of a letter written by President Asif Zardari to the speaker of the National Assembly. The letter directed the speaker to constitute a parliamentary commission on new provinces in the Punjab. Justice Muhammad Khalid Mahmood resumed the hearing on Monday. On behalf of the federal government, Additional Attorney General Abdul Hayee Gilani submitted a copy of the letter. The court will again take up the matter today. A group of lawyers has challenged the formation of the parliamentary commission and assailed its recommendations.
