Explosives trigger gas pipeline explosion in Karachi
Sui Gas sub station damaged, but no loss of life reported.
KARACHI:
A sub-station of the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) was partially damaged when a powerful explosion took place on Monday evening.
The blast was powerful enough to shake buildings and windows as far as Defence phase IV.
Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) officials said that about 200 grams of highly explosive materials were used. They added that an improvised explosive device was attached to a timer to cause the blast.
Korangi Road was badly jammed with traffic after the explosion.
A suspicious person has been detained by police from the site.
DC South said the investigation into the incidence is still underway.
An SSGC spokesperson said the blast was similar in nature to the one that occurred at NIPA a few days ago.
No damage to life was reported.
