Quaid Trophy: Blues outwit Hyderabad as first round ends

Sialkot benefit in tie against Whites in Super Eight.

Karachi Blues recorded an emphatic 114-run win over Hyderabad as the first round of the Super-Eight stage at the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy concluded yesterday.

The victory took Blues on top of group B alongside Lahore Shalimar as they accumulated nine points from their triumph. Hyderabad ended the first round without a point and are placed on the bottom with Lahore Ravi who have also yet to score a point.

Chasing a target of 394, Hyderabad were bundled out for 279 on the last day. They were able to add only 115 runs after resuming the final day on 164 for five.

It was a combined bowling effort by the Blues with Ruman Raees, Tabish Khan, Tariq Haroon and Akbarur Rehman wrapping Hyderabad’s second-innings with two wickets apiece.



Sharjeel Khan who made 101 off just 80 deliveries remained the top-scorer from the losing side.


Sialkot snatch points in draw

Meanwhile, Sialkot earned three points from their group A clash against Karachi Whites as the rain-affected fixture resulted in a draw.

Whites, who were replying to Sialkot’s first-innings total of 254 runs, were dismissed for 238.

They resumed the final day on 137 for four but failed to get a solid partnership, losing wickets at regular intervals. Nayyar Abbas finished with figures of four wickets for 79 runs while captain Shoaib Malik took three for 62 for Sialkot.

Later, Sialkot hammered 184 for three in their second-innings after an unbeaten 101 from Hafiz Majid.

Courtesy to their first-innings lead, Sialkot stand on top along with Rawalpindi in group A as both teams secured three points in the opening round. Islamabad and Karachi Whites ended the first round with a point.
