Polls on the horizon: Zardari meets PPP leaders from central Punjab
Directs them to make contacts with people in their districts well ahead of polls.

President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday hosted a meeting of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) office bearers from three districts of central Punjab in his newly constructed Bilawal House in a gated community in Lahore.
According to PPP officials, office bearers and legislators from Sheikhupura, Nankana and Kasur districts had the meeting with both Zardari and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and discussed the party’s strategy for the upcoming general elections. They said that the PPP leadership has directed them to make contact with the people in their districts for the elections.
Officials added that party representatives from the districts of Narowal, Gujranwal and Sialkot are scheduled to meet with Zardari and Bilawal at the new residence on Sunday (today).
According to an official statement issued by the Presidency, Zardari also visited the shrine of Syed Ali bin Usman Ali al Hajweri, the Data Ganj Bakhsh, to pay homage to the saint.
He was accompanied by Bilawal, Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Mian Manzoor Wattoo, Punjab Governor Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood and Information and Broadcasting Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira.
Wattoo also had a meeting with the president, with Bilawal also present.
He apprised Zardari about the observance of Kashmir Solidarity Day as well as the overall situation in AJK and G-B, including development.
Presidential spokesperson Senator Farhatullah Babar said that Zardari inquired about the progress on developmental projects, including the upgrading of Raikot-Khunjrab section of the Karakoram Highway (KKH), its realignment at the artificial Attabad Lake, the rehabilitation of people affected by the raising of Mangla Dam and Attabad, as well as the construction of the Diamer-Bhasha Dam.
Zardari said that these were crucial projects for the development of the area and for the creation of job opportunities. He advised that the progress on such projects should be regularly monitored and ensure they are completed on schedule.
