Curbing Terrorism: SIMs to be issued after verification

New system will require customer to provide fingerprints before his SIM is activated.

KARACHI: A biometric verification system for issuing SIMs has been prepared by the National Database and Registration Authority and will be launched on February 28, said the organisation’s spokesperson in a statement issued on Saturday.

The new system will require every customer to provide his fingerprints that will be matched with his national identity number before his SIM is activated.

It has been invented to assist the government in curbing the use of illegally issued SIMs in terrorist activities.
