Iran’s state-run English language news network Press Tv has claimed that it has been pulled off the North American airwaves, Aljazeera reported on Saturday.
Aljazeera said that Press Tv had put up a statement on its website where it claimed its channel had been pulled off the Galaxy 19 satellite platform which allows the channel to be beamed into the USA and Canada.
In addition to the news channel, the Iranian film channel iFilm was also taken off air, the statement claimed.
Aljazeera said that Intelsat, the Luxembour-based company which owns Galaxy 19, has not commented on its decision.
Press Tv claimed that it had not been provided a reason why its channel was taken off the airwaves. Aljazeera though pointed towards new sanctions announced by the US Treasury Department this week which blacklisted the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) and its director, Ezatollah Zarghami, as a possible reason for the latest blackout.
