Bank Robbery: Six men escape with Rs1.4 million

Case has been transferred to Special Investigation Unit after FIR was registered.

KARACHI: Six armed men robbed more than Rs1.4 million from Allied Bank Limited on Friday in the third bank robbery to occur in Karachi in 2013.

Four culprits broke into the bank’s PECHS branch, located near Tipu Sultan police station, at 1pm and conducted the robbery while the other two guarded the doors and held the security guard, Aslam, hostage. The robbers managed to escape before the police arrived.

SHO Irfan Meo explained that the footage obtained from CCTV cameras reveals, two of them were dressed in shalwar kameez and were speaking Urdu.

They took three minutes to complete the robbery, which suggests that they knew about the bank’s internal structure, he added.

He also suggested that someone from the bank might also have aided them.

According to the police, the culprits beat the bank cashier when he refused to cooperate.

They do not know the details about the vehicle used by the robbers yet.

The case was transferred to Special Investigation Unit after an FIR was registered on the request of the bank manager at the Tipu Sultan police station.
