Target killing: JUI-F, ASWJ strike brings Karachi to a standstill

The strike against targeted killings of ulema brought Karachi to a standstill on Friday as businesses remained closed, reported Express News.
The strike call was given by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl and Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat, after the government failed to apprehend the culprits who shot dead Mufti Abdul Majeed Deenpuri of Jamia Uloom Islamia, Binoria Town in a targeted attack on January 31.
Protesters came out on the roads early morning and forced traders to close shops in several areas. They also resorted to burning cars and tyres in different areas including Sohrab Goth, Lyari and Steel Town.
One policeman was slightly injured when protesters fired at a police mobile in Bin Qasim area near Steel Town. The Super Highway was also closed for traffic.
Transporters in the city had also announced they will support the strike, leaving less traffic on the roads today. Attendance in schools and offices also remained low.
All markets of the city, including Bolton Market and Light House, were also closed during the strike.
