Vehari By-Polls Challenged: LHC summons election chief of Punjab
Under Article 224(4) of the constitution by-polls can not be held before 90 days of the general election.

The Chief Justice of Lahore High Court (LHC) Umar Ata Bandial on Thursday summoned provincial election commissioner for explanation in a writ petition challenging by-polls in PP-239 of Vehari district scheduled on February 18.
Muhammad Ashfaq, resident of the constituency, submitted in the petition that ECP had issued a notification for holding by-polls in the electorate on February 18.
While, under Article 224(4) of the constitution the by-polls could not be held before 90 days of the general election, he pointed out.
Deputy Attorney General Nasim Kashmiri appearing on behalf of federal government told the court that any important legislation or question might be done in the assembly and the people of the constituency would be deprived of representation.
