ISLAMABAD:
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday suspended, till next hearing, the dismissal order of former registrar of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC). Th order was issued by the executive committee of the council.
Citing secretary Ministry of National Regulations and Services, secretary Establishment Division, vice president PMDC, member executive committee of PMDC and Dr Raja Amjad Mehmood, the newly appointed registrar of authority, as respondents, former registrar Dr Ahmed Nadeem Akbar challenged his suspension order passed by the executive committee of the authority on January 21.
IHC Justice Riaz Ahmed Khan suspended the removal order of the former registrar till next date of hearing which will be fixed later by the registrar office.
The counsel of the petitioner, Advocate Abdul Rahim Bhatti, told the court that his client was suspended by the executive committee of the PMDC which was not a competent authority to pass such an order. “The competent authority is the president under section 4(3) of the PMDC Act 201 and the order passed by the committee was illegal and against the law,” he argued.
He informed the court that after suspension of his client, Raja Amjad Mehmood was appointed as register, who served as Joint Executive Director (JED) at the Children’s Hospital -Pims.
