The largest consignment of crude oil ever to be brought into Pakistan by a single oil tanker was discharged through Byco’s deep sea single point mooring (SPM) facility to the Byco oil refining complex.
The tanker, MT Quetta, moored at the terminal with a cargo of 79,000 tons of crude oil from the United Arab Emirates, according to a press release.
The SPM was tested on December 36, 2012 when the first crude oil tanker, MT Arietis, successfully discharged cargo of 17,000 tons of crude oil.
With a draft of 25 metres, the Byco SPM can accommodate vessels carrying crude/petroleum products of over 100,000 tons. Presently, smaller parcel of petroleum products are being imported through Karachi Port and Port Qasim due to the draft limitations of both these ports.
