WHO to conduct polio survey
Officials told to ensure security, assist teams.
The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government has issued instructions to all concerned officials to assist and provide security for a polio survey by World Health Organization teams (WHO) .
WHO workers will directly coordinate with deputy commissioners in their respective districts, said a press release.
The Home and Tribal Affairs Department has issued instructions to the provincial police officer, divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners, asking them to ensure security. Deputy commissioners have been asked to treat this matter as top priority.
Union councils in each district where there is no security risk will be identified. The WHO plans to conduct a post-polio campaign survey and identify children who were not vaccinated in the immunisation drive.
The WHO had suspended their operations across the province after nine polio workers were killed in December last year and ordered their staff to abandon their immunisation activities.
