ISLAMABAD:
Following parliamentary tradition, members of the lower house belonging to both sides of the political aisle paid homage to former chief minister of Balochistan Jam Muhammad Yousaf who was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard in Lasbela on Monday, following his death due to cardiac arrest.
The National Assembly session, in which a handful of lawmakers were in attendance, commenced with Fateha for the departed soul, followed by treasury and opposition bench members appreciating the services of the late Jam Yousaf for the people of Balochistan.
Expressing sorrow over the sad demise of the former chief minister, who was also provincial president of Pakistan Muslim League Quaid-e-Azam, Rana Tanvir from the opposition Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz said, “Jam Yousaf was a patriotic and humble man who served the country with dedication.”
He added that the country was in dire need of such people. Raza Hayat Hiraj from the PML-Q, who led the Fateha, said Jam was a patriotic man who never hesitated to raise his voice for Balochistan. “We have been deprived of a patriotic personality,” he added.
ANP’s Pervaiz Khan and Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam’s Aasiya Nasir said that the country would remember the sacrifices and services of Jam Yousaf and his family. They added that the former chief minister had always worked tirelessly and sincerely for the uplift of the people of his province.
Following the memorial service, Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi adjourned the house proceedings, as per tradition. According to the prior agenda of Monday’s parliamentary session, Interior Minister Rehman Malik was supposed to table an amendment bill to legislate changes in the Anti-terrorism Act, 1997.
