Youth-initiative: FJWU students get laptops, new hostel building announced

New academic block, library also being planned.

A total of 1,028 laptops were given to high-scoring students from various programmes of FJWU.

RAWALPINDI:

Spreading education in every corner of the country is the only solution to all the problems being faced by the country. This was stated by the Advisor to Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Begum Zakia Shahnawaz while addressing a laptop distribution ceremony held under the “Chief Minister’s Youth Initiative Program” at Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) on Monday.

Education is also necessary for the emancipation of women, she added.

A total of 1,028 laptops were given to high-scoring students from various programmes of FJWU.

Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif was scheduled to distribute the laptops among the students, however he could not make it to the ceremony.

Shahnawaz, who was also the chief guest at the occasion, said that the Punjab government was committed to empower the women through higher education. She said that the chief minister was a man of vision who did not take rest and “worked round-the-clock”. She also added that the government has taken practical steps for the promotion of education and a number of programmes have been initiated for polishing the talent of students. “Use the laptops for creative work and to enhance your learning,” she added.

An interesting situation developed in the hall packed with students, when the host was praising for Punjab government for launching projects on merit, stating that all of the programmes were corruption-free. Suddenly, a girl spoke up, “No it is not true. Corruption is still there.” The hall burst into laughter forcing the FJWU administration into action to avoid any untoward situation again.

Meanwhile, FJWU VC Prof Dr Samina Amin Qadir in her welcome address said that establishment of FJWU introduced a new chapter in women education in the country. It’s a great gift of Nawaz Sharif for the daughters of the nation, Dr Qadir said. She thanked the CM for showing concern over the accommodation problem of the girls and informed that work on construction of hostel building is in progress and will be finished by December, 2013.

She said that we are also planning the construction of a new academic block and library.

A smart contingent of Punjab Police presented guard of honour to the students who excelled and got laptops. National songs, sung by renowned singer Nadeem Abbas, also added colours to the ceremony.

The ceremony was also attended by Advisor to CM on Higher Education Zaheem Hussain Qadri, Secretary Higher Education, FJWU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Samina Amin Qadir, faculty members, Rawalpindi Division Commissioner Imdadullah Bosal, MNA Tahira Aurangzeb, parliamentarians and other dignitaries.
