Pressure on mechanism: Gas supply to RY Khan, Sadiqabad suspended for 8 hours
CNG station owners, employees and citizens demonstrate against government.
RAHIM YAR KHAN:
The Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited stopped gas supply to the district after CNG stations started operating on Sunday.
Gas supply to Rahim Yar Khan and Sadiqabad remained suspended for eight hours that caused problems for both domestic and commercial users.
CNG station owners, employees and hundreds of citizens staged demonstrations at Bypass Chowk, Abu Dhabi Road, Thali Road and Shahbazpur Road, blocking the roads with burning tyres to protest the SNGPL action.
Earlier, when SNGPL District Incharge Zia Haider Kazmi, assisted by police, tried to stop gas supply to CNG stations, the owners and employees of the CNG stations resisted. SNGPL Regional Manager Sheikh Ikram then ordered the closure of the main pipeline.
Talking to the media, CNG station owners Chaudhry Waqar Sindhu, Rana Abdul Sattar, Rana Sattar, Chaudhry Naeem Shafique and Mahmoodul Hassan Cheema said they had started operating their pumps after obtaining court orders permitting them to do so. They said the SNGPL had acted illegally in stopping gas supply to the whole district. They blamed Petroleum Minister Dr Asim Hussain for it.
Kazmi said the CNG station owners had acted illegally. He said they were forced to suspend gas supply.
Gas supply to domestic and commercial users was fully restored on the intervention of Member National Assembly Chaudhry Javed Iqbal Warraich and Deputy Coordination Officer Nabeel Javed. However, the CNG stations were not operating.
The DCO has called the CNG station owners and SNGPL officers to his office on Tuesday to discuss the situation.
