The mall: Extra shop signs torn down

Sign boards were removed from several shops on The Mall in an operation led by the Data Gunj Bakhsh town municipal administrator on Sunday.
The shops had been warned before that they were only allowed to put up one sign board, said DCO Noorul Amin Mengal. Many stores on The Mall had put up several sign boards that covered the entire facades of buildings, some of them considered historically significant. Their extra sign boards were confiscated.
The decision to allow shops only one signboard each was made under the Dilkash Lahore project, an initiative to beautify the historic parts of the city, currently focusing on The Mall. A special sign board for shops on The Mall has been designed as part of the project.
The DCO on Sunday also inspected patchwork on The Mall and the material being used. The repair of the road is costing Rs70 million, he added.
