Showcasing gems, jewellery: Three-day exhibit concludes
Local jewellers, gem dealers and manufacturers of machinery, equipment and accessories set up stalls during the event.
ISLAMABAD:
A three-day exhibition showcasing the best of traditional and contemporary Pakistani gems and jewellery concluded here on Sunday. The third Islamabad Gem Exhibition, organised by the Pakistan Gems & Jewellery Development Company (PGJDC), gave international buyers an introduction to the rich Pakistani market. The intricately crafted jewellery and precious, semi-precious gemstones found in Pakistan revealed what the organisers described as an entirely new market to foreign buyers. Local jewellers, gem dealers and manufacturers of machinery, tools, equipment and accessories set up stalls during the event. Abdul Ahad, an official of PGJDC, said through exhibitions like these, they plan to increase Pakistan’s jewellery and gemstone exports to $1.5 billion by 2017.
