Demanding facilities: Tribal elders threaten to besiege Parliament
Elders demand an immediate end to operations of security forces and US drone attacks.
PESHAWAR:
Elders from various tribal agencies on Saturday threatened to besiege parliament and carry a long march to Islamabad if their demands are not met within a week.
They demanded an immediate end to operations of security forces and US drone attacks in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), along with adequate provision of food and other facilities for internally displaced persons (IDPs) living in makeshift camps.
“Tribal people are facing numerous difficulties in the wake of the ongoing military operations,” Muttahida Qabail Party (MQP) Vice Chairman Habib Noor Orakzai said at the Peshawar Press Club.
Flanked by Hamid Noor Orakzai, Ghazi Khan Masood and others, Orakzai expressed grave concerns about the supply of insufficient and sub-standard food and absence of basic facilities for IDPs.
Earlier, elders staged a demonstration led by Orakzai on main Sher Shah Suri Road.
