LAHORE:

An Additional District and Sessions Judge confirmed pre-arrest bail for a New Anarkali Station House Officer (SHO) allegedly protecting a gang of gamblers. The judge confirmed bail for SHO Ahmed Raza against bail bonds for Rs50,000.

The SHO said he had been implicated with the connivance of some senior colleagues. He said he neither protected gamblers nor had any sort of connection with them. According to an FIR registered by DSP Shamsul Haq Durani under Section 155-C of Police Ordinance 2002, SHO Raza had been told by his seniors that organised crime was not being controlled in his area and no steps had been taken to deal with the Humayun Gang which organised gambling in his area. The FIR said that the SHO denied that there were any gambling activities in the area. He also denied any knowledge of the Humayun Gang operating there, the FIR read. The FIR said it was found that the gambling den was run with the SHO’s knowledge. The police conducted a raid and arrested Humayun Khan, Shadi Khan and 35 others.
